It is from her father that she reportedly gained her values of open-mindedness and tolerance. Upon her father's death, Sitt's half-brother al-Mansur, I later known by the regnal name al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah, became caliph. Sitt supported her cousin to succeed; however, al-Hakim was proclaimed ruler first, and Sitt was placed under house arrest.
