Polly has been busier with poetry than music over the last few years – how did that influence her approach?
As all of the songs are actually poems that she’s spent the last eight years writing, I would say this has been absolutely central to the concept of the whole record. It brings into strong focus whether a lyric is a poem or whether a poem can be a lyric. The lyrics come directly from the poems in Dorset, so they sometimes sound strange. That’s the beauty of it – there’s emotion there.
