Quilters Companion

Arcadia Part 1

Welcome to the 2023 Block of the Month featuring fabrics from the new St Etienne collection by Kim Hurley of l’uccello, designed for Devonstone Collection and distributed in Australia by Two Green Zebras. This quilt has been designed by Keryn Emmerson to showcase this range’s ornate, floral and large-scale designs. Arcadia celebrates the fabrics’ strong elements of British and French designs, bringing to mind an era of beautiful furnishings and attention to detail.

The large central star design is built around dots and stripes, including some from Kim’s previous collections. The centre square showcases the pastoral print of children playing; a blue stripe surrounds it with mitred corners, and the whole is tipped on point against a floral background.

Rotary cutting, accurate piecing and precise fussy cutting of adorable imagery, as well as dots and stripes, will make this quilt a joy to make and behold!
