You can use 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste instead of scraping seeds from a vanilla bean, if you prefer. Use your hands to fill the ¼ cup measures of crumpet batter as it can be quite difficult to handle with a spoon. If you have another large frying pan and extra egg rings, cook more than one batch at a time to reduce the total cooking time.
