With great power comes great responsibility…

Flicking through the pages of magazines or scrolling though Instagram, you’d be forgiven for thinking all is well in the natural world. Wildlife photos are ubiquitous, often giving the appearance the animals are all healthy, safe and doing fine.

But the world’s wildlife is facing an unprecedented crisis. One million species of animals and plants are currently at risk. This sixth mass extinction event that our planet has faced is the first to be caused by human activity. Biodiversity loss and environmental destruction spell disaster for humankind, if we don’t change course.

This is the stark warning behind The New Big 5, which I’m the author of. The book brings together 146 of the world’s greatest photographers, including Ami Vitale, Steve McCurry, Paul Nicklen, Marina Cano, David Lloyd, Art Wolfe, Gurcharan Roopra and Beverly Joubert in a mission to raise awareness about the threats facing wildlife.
