Test: Ableton Push 3

Raise the curtain for Ableton Push 3! In the usual Ableton manner, Push 3 comes along stylish and simple and presents itself in two configurations: As a musical instrument and controller, like Push 2 in conjunction with a PC, or-and this is new-as a standalone version with integrated processor, hard drive, battery and audio interface. Thanks to exchangeable components, the controller configuration can be upgraded at any time. The rectangular design with the large pad matrix, the high-resolution color display, touch strip, touch-sensitive knobs and function keys has remained. At first glance similar to Push 2; on closer inspection, somehow quite different. What happened?

More expressiveness

The spotlight is on the Pad Matrix. 64 MPE-capable pads with RGB backlighting, equipped with an XY sensor that detects finger movements in detail. Compared to Push 2, the pads feel much softer and more comfortable. There is no more noise when striking and you no longer get stuck in the spaces between the pads. Expressive figures can beup to 128 sounds can be placed on it. The pitch varies via position and pressure of the finger, filters open or a choir pad humming away becomes a choir on an open vocal sound. Any form of MPE modulation is possible. To use the full potential, you don‘t have to be a finger acrobat, nor do you have to be experienced in MPE. The fun begins with the first pad touch.
