As a longtime Hemmings subscriber, I enjoy your coverage of collector car auctions. For years I have placed my hand over the sale price and tried to guess the result. After years of practice, I have become more accurate. That said, I was aided by your opinion of what condition number of the car was (1-4). Recently, on many of the auctioned cars there is only the statement “restored.”

Thank you for taking an active interest in our auction reports, Mr. Beaumier. You’ll find in this month’s coverage from Amelia Island we’ve included numeric condition ratings.
Thank you for highlighting Jaguar E-type cars in your magazine (“Import Stock Exchange”, May ’23).
I believe your subject article is a bit inaccurate. You reference xkedata.com’s data as showing 10,305 examples of Series 1 cars. That is a close number for worldwide delivery of 3.8-liter cars only. U.S. delivery of 3.8-liter Series 1 cars was about 9,563.
Series-One cars included 4.2-liter cars as well. A more accurate number for U.S. and U.K. deliveries is about 30,992; a relatively small number of cars (less than 1,000?) were delivered to the rest of the world. Series 2 cars for U.S. and U.K. delivery were about 16,735.
These numbers come from by Philip Porter. The same set of numbers can be found in by Malcom McKay. There
