Since its inception in 2015, Portals has grown considerably, an echo of the increasing popularity of the post-rock, math rock and experimental bands that the festival features. This year’s move to EartH in Hackney more than ably demonstrates this, offering three different venues in one: a large open theatre; a smaller, darker, atypical music venue; and a bar area, although the number of steps needed to climb between readers.
