A: A quilt is a beautiful and irreplaceable family heirloom that can make a great addition to your cottage wall. That said, there’s lots to consider before deciding to hang it, says Esther Knegt, a conservator at the Textile Museum of Canada in Toronto. The first thing to figure out is whether your quilt can withstand the stress of being hung. “Old quilts can be quite fragile,” says Knegt. Large, heavy quilts can be especially difficult and risky to hang up.
