FRENCH BEANS

French beans, also known as kidney, snap or string beans, come in various shapes, sizes and colours. Some have flat pods, others round and the pods can be green, yellow or purple. When sold in supermarkets they are often known as Kenya or green beans to add to the confusion.

Dwarf French beans are the most popular in a garden situation and will produce low, bushy plants that produce a good crop of tender beans. Eaten fresh from the plants they are delicious, and they can also be frozen for use at other times of the year.

SOIL CONDITIONS

A sunny position and fertile soil is ideal for French beans. They will grow in almost any soil, but prefer it not to be too
