DERRINGTON CROSSFLOW HEAD ON MGA

Q&A

Have you got a technical problem with your MG? If so, the combined expertise of Roger Parker and the MGOC Workshop may be able to help. For details of how to access this free service, see p77.

Q I bought a dilapidated MGA in 2013 and then spent seven years restoring the car. The engine is the original 1500 unit, now rebuilt as part of the restoration. One of the car’s bonus features is that it came with a Derrington crossflow alloy cylinder head fitted to the engine and it remains on the rebuilt unit, together with a pair of 2” SU HD8 carbs, also rebuilt. My question relates to the Derrington head that is stamped with 119/8/58. Can you provide any information about this? I am interested to know if, in your opinion, the crossflow head makes this MGA anything of a rarity? Do you know how many MGAs have such a cylinder head?
