Opportunity knocks

Back in 2010, Simon Nicholls was ready for a new classic. He’d owned and enjoyed his Ford Cortina Mk1 for a few years and felt a change was due. After advertising the Ford for a couple of months he’d had no real interest. Then along came a classic car enthusiast, with a rubber bumper MGB GT in better condition than Simon’s Cortina, who was looking for a straight swap.

“I thought: ‘why not?’” said Simon. “It was in much better condition but in completely standard rubber bumper form, with the original 1.8-litre B-series, but it was a nice car and I’d had no better offers.

“I really enjoyed driving it around in its standard form for a while but I kept looking around at images of Sebring MGBs online and felt that something like that would be more exciting,” he added. “I love classic hot rods, modified cars and race cars so I guess this is my take on
