Just a few days ago, Scotland’s newish first minister Humza Yousaf referred to his predecessor and one-time mentor Nicola Sturgeon as “arguably one of the best politicians, the most impressive politicians, Europe has seen over the last couple of decades”. You could file this under “well he would, wouldn’t he”; she got him his job. He was not to know that she would arrested only a few days later.
But he is hardly alone in having a history of being almost entirely uncritical of Sturgeon. When she resigned abruptly a few months ago, most commentators accepted the idea that she just no longer
