This was, – the film that introduced most Western viewers to jiāngshī, the hopping corpses of Chinese folklore which are their nearest equivalent to Dracula and his ilk. The four follow-ups in this box set share similar themes, and some of the same cast (Lam Ching-ying, a taoist priest in the original, plays similar characters in three films), but otherwise go their own way.
