Know your gear

Having been involved in the marine industry for nearly 40 years (the last 17 with Ocean Safety), it was interesting to read the two accounts of rescue and abandonment in the June issue of Yachting World.

The saving of 16 people by the skipper and crew of illustrated the safety professionalism that exists within superyacht crews. We have the opportunity to work after the collision with a whale, while tragic with the rapid sinking, showed how the need to have good safety equipment is critical in times of distress.
