Released into the bloodstream when we're happy and relaxed, oxytocin is an important chemical messenger in human behaviours such as sexual arousal, anxiety, childbirth and mother-baby bonding. So says Henny de Beer, a clinical midwife from Cape Town.

“Oxytocin causes a chemical reaction in the body that makes a person feel good. It offers a truly rose-coloured perspective – one that helps with seeing the best in a situation,” she adds.
