As far as houses go, Aussie MX legend Craig Dack’s new home — located on a small acreage property just outside Torquay on Victoria’s Surf Coast — is more than a little deluxe. From the Venetian plaster to the polished concrete floors to the self-latching doors, this place is beautiful. And it’s big, really big — the hallway that stretches from one end to the other is damn near as long as the start straight at the old Amaroo Park motocross track. Seriously.
But as big as it is, I couldn’t help but feel that there’s something missing when it comes to the décor. Specifically, there’s precious little in the way of MX memorabilia on display.
“That’s just not my style,” Dacka explained, when questioned about it. “I’m just not into doing that.”
It wasn't until we got almost all the way through the place and reached ‘The Sports Bar’ — that’s packed with benches, bar stools and fridges filled with Monster Energy drinks — that I finally sighted the four famed Muscleman trophies he won for snaring the prized Mr Motocross title in 1986, ’87, ’88 and ’90. But that’s it: no posters, no trophies, no framed jerseys, no helmets.
