I'VE CAUGHT THE BUG

I've denied it for a long time, but too much time around the Duleys has finally weakened me and I've dived into waterfowling properly.

In life I've always gained satisfaction in tasks by figuring out the process, and for me, the satisfaction of calling and decoying ducks and geese has become a great source of enjoyment.

There's just so much to learn, trying to encourage a flighty wild animal with laser-like eyesight to come within shotgun range is so wildly different from any hunting I normally do. Normally I'm the one going to them!

So for 2022 I wanted to do a proper hunt on some public water in the Waikato. The Waipa River. Key member of the team and designated caller (not just because he looks like he belongs on Duck Commanders) Trent Flay had access to a nice slow bend on the river, where we could even drive to.
