WHILE IT WAS LOVE that compelled a New York arts patron to relocate to Charlotte, North Carolina, it was interior designer Cindy Smith who made the transition feel so seamless. Smith had decorated four of the woman’s previous residences and just happened to be living in the “Queen City,” a fond nickname for Charlotte. So, when her longtime client showed up one day, married to one of the city’s native sons, there was no question about who would decorate her new home.
