“The long bear market that ushered in the [Richard] Nixon administration opened the week with steep, fresh losses,” wrote on the unstable market conditions that marked the decade. “But then, the most powerful three-day rally in memory surged through Wall Street, lifting prices by a flabbergasting eleven percent.” While things have changed quite a bit since the era of Nixonomics, consensus is still elusive regarding what monetary and tax policies will effectively control the ebbs and flows of the economy to prevent inflation and recessions.
