Origin of Numbi Gate
Origin of the name Numbi
Numbi is the name of a conspicuous and well-wooded hill north-west of the gate with the same name and currently lies outside the Kruger National Park's boundary.
The name originates from the Siswati name for the Transvaal milkplum (Englerophytum magalismontanum), umnumbela, also commonly referred to by its Afrikaans name, stamvrug, that has nutritional and medicinal value.
Numbi Hill was excised from the Park in 1968 when the Selati Railway line was relocated to the revised western boundary between the Sabie and Crocodile River.
