From sanctuaries (game reserves) to a National Park

With the fledgling Kruger National Park having just been proclaimed under the Minister of Lands in the Union government (it had reported to the Transvaal Province), a national park philosophy, as we know it today, did not exist. It had to be formed over the many decades that followed. With this transition (from provincial game reserve to national park), employees were retrenched. The then warden, James Stevenson-Hamilton, was requested to stay on and it was quite a change as he now had to report to the Board of Trustees. He disliked.
