Ntsikana was raised as a traditional Ngqika Xhosa before a series of visions in 1815 led to his conversion to Christianity. From that point onwards he developed a ministry, complete with a group of disciples, amongst the Xhosa. By the time of his death just six years later, he had done enough to ensure that he would be remembered and revered 200 years later.
