NIEKIE WRITES: I took this photo at Waterval, a holiday resort outside Vanrhynsdorp in the Western Cape. The waterfall itself was full after good winter rains. It was just before 9 am and overcast. I didn't have a tripod, but there was a rock I could rest my elbows on to steady the camera.
I used shutter priority mode and I played around with a slower shutter speed. I took six photos and this one was the best. I ended up with a half-second shutter speed at an aperture of f13, with the ISO set to 100.
I used editing software called PhotoScape to crop the photo and make small adjustments to the colour, contrast and sharpness.
