A new look at the Titanic’s wreckage

MORE than a century after it sank, the Titanic continues to captivate people – and new high-tech images show the famous shipwreck like it’s never been seen before.

The 3D images offer a clear view of the entire vessel, which lies broken in two parts at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, some 4 000 metres underwater.

The scans reveal the rusted wreck as if the water has been drained away and close-up pictures show stunning details such as unopened champagne bottles and shoes on the seafloor.

The images were created by deepsea investigators from Magellan Ltd and Atlantic Productions, who are making a documentary about the project. The team used remote-controlled cameras to scan every inch of the ship and its surrounding debris last year.

They took more than 700 000 photographs from every possible angle, which they then put together to create an exact 3D reconstruction. The whole process
