POLEWORK IS FABULOUS and fun, and the myriad patterns of today have brought the equestrian world a raft of interesting configurations that never fail to give the horse a whole body workout.
Polework will really move the horse's limbs. If you watch footage of a horse trotting on the flat versus him trotting over poles, you will instantly see that he has more lift, cadence and articulation. This strengthens his body, lessening the risk of injury as he goes about his daily work. The stronger his core becomes, too, the more it will support his back and spine.
Not everyone loves schooling, and not everyone rides into an arena with a well thought out plan in mind, but have a few grids at the ready and the session will virtually work itself out. Such exercises will keep horse and rider occupied and will be a great way of improving the horse compared to those endless circles which often bore both equine and human.
