As APC’s resident PC component writer, I handle a lot of different PC parts. But there’s one in particular that manages to irk me every time I use one. I’m referring to M.2 SSDs. In fact, I hate them. They have so many unnecessary drawbacks. They’re well suited to laptops, but for a DIY PC? Nope. What’s really frustrating is that there’s a ready-made alternative with all of M.2’s advantages, and essentially none of its drawbacks. It’s called U.2. Sadly, despite fleeting inclusions on some high-end motherboards a couple of generations ago, U.2 never caught on in the consumer space. And I want it back.
