TRIUMPH STAG (1970-1977)
You might assume that the Triumph Stag is the last word in British sports car design, but we have an Italian to thank for its creation. With the 1965 Turin Motor Show approaching, Giovanni Michelotti wanted to build a bespoke motor show car to showcase his not inconsiderable talent. Early in 1964, Triumph design chief Harry Webster received a request for a Triumph 2000 to use as the basis for said show car. He duly accepted with one proviso: if Triumph liked the car’s design, it would have first refusal on production rights.
