• Lemon yellow
• Cadmium yellow
• Cadmium red
• Titanium white

Painting solely with highlights is an excellent way to encourage the study of light and the way it lands on the different planes of an object. At the same time, this exercise helps improve fine brush control.

The mam aim of this challenge is to focus on the interplay between light and shade and moving between wide and narrow brushes for different effects. The shape and depth of an image will be achieved using only white acrylic paint on a previously prepared brightly coloured background. This removes any pressure to mix varying shades of multiple colours and forces the artist to look at sheer light intensity instead and work with different levels of paint opacity.

On a personal level, I find it immensely energising to work with pure white on a bright background, and I believe this particular painting
