Chalford valley foot crossings…

Martin Leech's photo-feature on page 24 reminded me just how much I liked the railway between Stroud and Kemble and just how useful those foot crossings are as vantage points for photography. Martin was not the only linesider to take photographs on that stretch. I wonder if he ever stood shoulder to shoulder with George Heiron, without realising? The crossings did, and still do, require great care and a modicum of common sense, of course, but we older linesiders will take that for granted. Close to the access gate and well away from the cess, often offered a clear vantage point for photography. Martin lived close to that stretch of railway and obviously knew
