HOW WAS IT FOR YOU? AYIA NAPA TRIATHLON

I’m just about at the turn around point on the run. This is my second and final lap. On my first visit here, some 20 minutes or so ago, I was confident that come now I’d be able to put on a splendid surge to the finish line. Well, that was then, and this is now, and I’m pretty much done.

I run back, staring at those chasing as they come towards me. I assess whether anyone is looking likely to run me down, making sure I adopt a particularly relaxed look to anyone I think is in real danger of catching me. One of the oldest tricks in my book.

I pass bar after bar, all closed, with the occasional noise of a hammer and drill as renovations go on. This is clearly the off-season in this most famous of party towns. This is the Ayia Napa Triathlon in Cyprus, but this definitely isn’t the Ayia Napa
