GREEK ODYSSEY
For his first race back since the pandemic, Sean McFarlane wanted an epic challenge. Cue the inaugural Xtri Corfu, complete with sun-lounging tourists, glorious vistas and hairpin after hairpin… It’s getting dark now. As I run across the soft white sand and gaze into and over the emerald clear blue sea, I do briefly think I’m doing the wrong thing here. This is all too idyllic to pollute with my now offensive bodily smells. Those watching on raise their beer glasses and give me a nod as they rock themselves up from their sun loungers for the day. For them it’s been a solid shift of horizontal eating and drinking. I look at them admiringly in a bizarre yet glorious scene of mutual envy.
I’m now halfway through the run leg and I feel like I’ve seen most of this glorious island today in a stunning swim, bike and run tour. It’s been a most memorable outing and I’m all too aware it’s far from over. It’s undoubtedly a wholly different experience from that
