Shoreline Wading

Whenever lake surface water temperature is under 20ºC, there are few fishing locations better than a shoreline. Here the typically low odds of attracting passing lake trout attention to your lure are heightened by the rising lake bed, along which trout are swimming. All you need to do to get a 50/50 chance of a take is to identify the major food source around you and pick a lure to match it. Place that lure in the fish’s path without alerting it and the odds of a positive response swing further into your favour. Pick a spot where the vision of passing fish becomes focused and those odds rise further.

It’s a while since I've done this and readership has changed considerably. So in this Winter issue, with the local lakes mostly closed to boat fishing, I'm going to run though one of the most highly-productive lake fishing opportunities – shoreline wading.
