“Slash pockets can be a little bit trickier than a standard in-seam pocket due to the bias edges that the diagonal line creates, but I promise you they are really enjoyable to sew, and not too hard! This tutorial will walk you through one of my favourite types of pockets. This pocket is used on my Valerie Raglan Dress and the Natalie Gored Skirt, and creates a lovely diagonal line that makes an elegant style feature.”

What is a slash pocket?

A slash pocket is a type of pocket that creates a triangular opening for the hand to slip into easily. It’s created with two differently-shaped pocket pieces that sew onto the diagonal opening on the main garment. The diagonal lines can be used in a way that is complementary to the other lines in the garment. In the case of my Valerie dress, the slash pockets echo the slanted raglan lines.
