There has never been any doubt that Ash Sutton is one of the best tin-top drivers of the modern generation, but his performance on Sunday at Brands Hatch would have put any doubters straight.
Second place from fourth in the opening race of the weekend in the Motorbase Performance Ford Focus, behind the winning WSR BMW 330e M Sport of Colin Turkington, laid the foundations, but wins in race two and race three were the mark of an expert.
He had achieved the race three win when on-the-road first place man Ricky Collard (Speedworks Toyota Corolla) was pinged for exceeding track limits, but Sutton would have pushed harder for the win if he knew it hadn’t been coming to him anyway.
A pole for Dan Cammish (Motorbase Performance Ford Focus) and a podium in race one kept his momentum going and he left Kent with the title lead in his pocket. But, even after a bruising weekend in the opener at Donington, Sutton is now third in the table.
