issouri’s cannabis legalization program is on a roll. In early March, just one month after the state first began, Missouri’s cannabis sales from the month of February made it third highest total in sales recorded, in comparison to other recreational states during their first month of sales (only California with $334.9 million and Arizona with $109.8 million ranked higher for the first month). Along with recreational cannabis, a report on March 21 shared that officials have granted over 15,000 expungements relating to nonviolent cannabis offenses. NORML Secretary and co-author of Missouri’s medical and recreational cannabis, Dan Viets, told that the expungement process has been completed faster than expected. “I thought clerks might wait until they got some money to hire additional people or pay overtime to their existing staff,” Viets said. “But at least 40-some counties are not waiting on that—they’re plunging right ahead and reviewing cases and expunging them.”
