Often the best ideas come when you leave familiar paths: play an unfamiliar instrument, jam with the presets of a new synth plug-in, or build a beat from sounds you recorded with your smartphone. Or take inspiration from existing songs for a chord progression or melody, or from a book or movie for interesting lyric ideas.
