Yet again, an excellent article (Choosing the right project boat, PBO, June 2023) by the incomparable Rupert Holmes.
Too often, yachting writers promote perfection as if we have limitless funds. Thankfully, Rupert seems to get where many of us are coming from, and I appreciate his sympathetic understanding of the weeks and years of joy, heartache, frustration and, yes, deep satisfaction in owning an old boat and making it seaworthy. I am unashamedly biased towards Rupert as he is the only writer who has acknowledged the existence of the Nova 27. In issue 625 (, May 2018) he photographed my Nova and spoke encouragingly of such ownership. She is 50 this year and after 20 years with me I feel fortunate in ‘choosing the right project boat’.
