OWLS
LIKE many birdkeepers, I've always been drawn to something a bit different. So it came about that I decided to try my hand at keeping a pair of owls. These I decided to install in a garden aviary that had previously housed a variety of foreign birds over the years. It measures 8ft square and has a pea shingle floor.
For years I'd wanted to keep little owls () and I managed to source a pair. They settled in well to their new home and laid two rounds of eggs, but unfortunately all of them proved to be infertile. Although they were happy to attempt to breed, the nature of the little owls meant that they always appeared a bit nervous and flighty, so that whenever I was in or around the flight they would retreat to the nest-box. That was a shame because it is always a pleasure to observe your birds.
