THE latest crime statistics show that the total number of contact crimes increased by 19 067 (11.6%) from Q3 2021 to Q3 2022. According to Minister Bheki Cele, 7 555 people were murdered in the three months of reporting. Figures vary but most sources agree that on average between 71 and 85 people are murdered per day on Minister Cele’s watch. I certainly would not congratulate him on a job well done, though he clearly disagrees with my and probably most other taxpayers’ view.
