I t’s diminutive. It’s unimposing. And it hardly takes your breath away in this modern-day age of high-tech dirt slayers that bristle with EFI, TPI, ABS, power modes, traction control and lean-angle sensors.

But truth be told, this white-tanked piece of precious metal is arguably the most important trailbike to ever roll down a motorcycle production line It’s the Yamaha DT1 and when it went on sale in early 1968, it absolutely rewrote the rulebook by which all dirtbikes would be judged and singlehandedly created the dual-purpose trail/enduro category that to this day continues to be in high demand with off-road riders right around the world

Put simply, the DT1 was the right bike at the right time and is renowned as THE landmark dirtbike of the past 55 years.
