‘Thumper’ unit continues southern wanderings

HAVING had its Hastings to Skegness excursion curtailed after the unexpected release of the fire suppression system within the motor coach No. 60118 at Tunbridge Wells on June 18, Hastings Diesels ‘Thumper’ DEMU No. 1001 is poised for action on two further dates this year.

On August 20, it is due to work Hastings Diesels’ own promoted tour, a circular tour of Kent with the final destination of Brighton. Starting at Hastings, the unit will run over Romney Marsh via Rye to Ashford, then via Dover and Minster to Canterbury West, then Redhill where the train will reverse direction to head to the final destination of Brighton for a four hour layover.
