The studio was built and the company moved in two years after Ferdinand Alexander Porsche set up the company in 1972,” says Roland Heiler, managing director, Studio F.A. Porsche. We’re in Zell Am See, Austria, and Roland reveals that the company founder, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, set up his headquarters in the alpine town where he spent his childhood.
The Porsche family home is visible via a direct line of sight from Ferdinand’s desk chair through the office window. That office remains as it was when Ferdinand occupied it, with the shelves filled with design and automotive books, model cars and a sizeable collection of Porsche club badges from all over the world. There’s no computer on his desk, just some stationery, an F.A. Porsche-designed telephone, desk light and ashtray, within which are a couple of pipes and a few pots of tobacco. Ferdinand worked on the draughtsman’s drawing board, which is also in the office.
