I fought long and hard to make sure recreational fishing was recognised in the UK Fisheries Act as it made its way through parliament during my time as the Head of Sea Angling at England’s national representative body for angling. One of the priorities was to make sure it qualified for funding to promote and support it – something that had been impossible under the EU fisheries funding scheme while we were subject to the EU Common Fisheries Policy.
