CHARTROOM SHIPS MAIL

Chandris tankers

I was very interested in the article about Chandris Tankers (SM, Mar) and in particular Dona Marika and her grounding at Milford Haven in 1973. I remember in 1972 or 1973 the ship spent some time laid up at Newcastle Quayside near the Tyne Bridge. I took some photos of her in sunshine during one of my lunch hours.

The article reminded me of Lowland Tankers, whose ships were employed by BP and managed by Common Brothers Ltd. They had a fleet of 15 tankers at their peak, some of which were later sold for further service, visiting the Tyne in the early 1970s. I enjoyed the March edition, which had plenty of good items for us older ship enthusiasts!
