Rowland Hilder has been one of my favourite artists for as long as I can remember. Many decades ago I was given Hilder’s first book, Starting with Watercolour, printed in 1966, and was greatly influenced by his powerful use of tonal values in his painting. From that moment on it changed the way that I approached my work.
