WE TALK ABOUT
The team flying to the moon
TAKE a long look – these are the first people in more than 50 years that will fly to the moon.
Earlier this month, American space agency Nasa announced the crew of its Artemis II mission: mission commander Reid Wiseman (front), pilot Victor Glover (back) and mission specialists Christina Koch (left) and Jeremy Hansen (right).
The Artemis mission will make history in many ways. Jeremy will be the first Canadian to travel so far from Earth, Christina will be the first woman and Victor will be the first person of colour to orbit the moon.
WHAT DOES THE MISSION ENTAIL?
Artemis II is an important step in Nasa’s plan to send astronauts to the moon to explore the cold regions near its south pole. Their research will determine if ice in its craters might provide oxygen and water to future astronauts.
