So you have a roadgoing Crossflowpowered Mk1 Escort. It’s already modified — head, cam and 40s — but you want more; you want to push power over 150 bhp without losing lowspeed torque. A race cam will get you the power but lose all the low-speed torque. An engine swap to a warm Pinto or even a standard Zetec will get you there but when the car in question is a genuine Mexico, a swap doesn’t seem right, so the only option is making it bigger.
