STEP BY STEP Take softwood cuttings
1 TRIM the cutting, leaving a bud at the base, then remove the lower leaves. Leave the uppermost leaves but cut the biggest leaf blades in half to reduce water-loss while the cutting roots.
2 USE a dibber to insert the cuttings into a pot of peat-free propagation compost mixed with grit or perlite. Firm the compost down a little then press around the cuttings to secure them.
3 SOAK the compost with water that’s at the same temperature
