Z is a side-scrolling platform game designed by George Allan, who was working at Gremlin Graphics when the Amiga needed a platforming was seen by some as the Amiga’s answer to and Gremlin Graphics’ marketing made no secret of this. In the run-up to its October 1992 release, fullpage adverts declaring that it’s “bad news for hedgehogs” were mixed in with Amiga magazines confirming Zool would dethrone Sonic. None of this hyperbole would come true for Gremlin Graphics and its own brand of anthropomorphic hero. However, did far better than most of ’s challengers by providing a unique blend of platforming, exploring and action. It was also successful enough to get a sequel and was eventually ported to almost every gaming machine by the mid-Nineties.
